In this paper, I will be making the case that a specific form of Anarchism is the most moral system of political organization. Specifically, I will be arguing for a subset of the Anarchist philosophy called â€Å"Anarcho-Capitalism†. But I will address left-wing socialist Anarchism. I will start with some definitions and then move into the more nuanced aspects of my arguments. In this paper, I intend to first address the moral issues of â€Å"statist† political systems and then move onto those of the leftist Anarchists. I will then summarize Murray Rothbard’s case for Anarcho-Capitalism. The need for human beings to connect and to communicate seems innate; if they were not, mankind would not seek out others with whom to forge bonds.   One of the basic forms of human association is via communication, and the ways in which humans have learned to communicate are as varied as the individuals involved.   A quick glance into any history book will reveal that during the early periods of humankind’s existence, while people struggled to keep themselves clothed and fed, they took time to create works of art—be it on the walls of caves or via carved figures. Alfred Jensen’s series The Number Paintings (2006) â€Å"looks at how the artist used Pythagorean theory, the Mayan Calendar, and other numerical systems as well as Goethe’s color theory in his work,† but this description of the exhibit is devoid of the complexity that is present within Jensen’s pieces and the ways in which they may touch a viewer (Joy, 2006, Alfred). The painting Demonstration VIII (1961) was my favorite piece from The Number Paintings (2006), but my attachment had little to do with math or Mayans, and while I admit that part of my being drawn to this piece was due to its colors, this had far more to do with personal preference than with Goethe.   I made a connection to this piece because it reminded me of some of my favorite childhood things: pie and crayons.   Admittedly, this reaction is less-than sophisticated; however, the fact that I made these initial connections with Jensen’s piece caused me to spend a good deal of time examining it, and once drawn to the piece, the numerical sequences and their meanings fascinated me. While Jensen may have set out to create an artistic commentary on â€Å"clockwork,† â€Å"circumference,† and â€Å"diameter,† this would have been meaningless to me had I not been drawn to the pie shape and the colors of the piece.   It seems then, that one element of the way in which people manage to communicate (i.e. to express themselves and to be understood) is through similarities in taste: in this case, the primary factors were shape and color. Elizabeth Murray’s series Paintings 2003-2006 (2006), â€Å"are vibrant abstractions, sometimes of figures and everyday objects, combined to create visual metaphors of the world around us† (Joy, 2006, Elizabeth).   This statement was easier for me to attach myself to than was the statement regarding Jensen’s exhibit.   The description regarding Murray’s show gave me permission to enjoy what I saw while gently seeking a connection between each piece and the way I view the world.   I found myself particularly fascinated with Muddy Waters 8:05 A.M., because of the green and yellow hands I perceived in the piece.   The more I looked, the more what I saw reminded me of Sylvia Plath’s poem, â€Å"Metaphors.†Ã‚   Plath’s piece is often referred to as a riddle to which the â€Å"answer† is that she is describing her pregnancy (Comley, et al, 2004).   As I continued to view Murray’s piece, I could not help but see the im age of a pregnant woman—whom I imagined to be single—as she struggled against the current of society. Given the title of the piece, I presume that I have mistaken what Murray created; however, what I did see certainly fits with the description of what her work is supposed to convey.   Based on the artwork of Murray, it seems as if another means by which understanding and expression are accomplished are via works that spark the imagination. Jerome Robbins’ ballet Fancy Free is set â€Å"in New York City on a hot summer night,† and involves â€Å"three sailors on shore leave [who] pick up two girls [when] a fight develops over which sailor is to be left without a partner†; however, without experiencing the dance and music of the ballet, it simply cannot be fully appreciated (Notes).   While the comedy of the story-line was entertaining, the magnificent dancing was the reason this piece was memorable. Through their jumps and twists and turns, I was drawn into the competition as if I were part of it.   As each sailor took his turn, I urged him on while holding my breath that his performance would stand up to those of his competitors.   Having real people acting out a series of events in a live performance is clearly a powerful form of communicating.   A solid performance brings the actors and the audience together in a way that few other experiences can, and when the show is successful, the participants have expressed themselves and the audience has understood them. When I was younger, my best friend and I used to make up all kinds of things to do.   Sometimes we’d pretend we were from a foreign country and make up accents all afternoon.   Other times, we’d pretend we were grown ups and act out the lives we imagined for ourselves.   One of the funniest things we ever did was to spend an entire afternoon communicating without talking or writing.   The rules were simple: anything one of us wanted to say had to be conveyed through the use of gestures and expressions.   As you might imagine, it was far more difficult to â€Å"talk† than we thought it would be, and while it was fun, it was extremely challenging.   The truth is, we spent more time laughing over not being able to understand one another than we did â€Å"communicating.† Things became especially silly when I realized I had to go to the bathroom.   While it might seem that I could simply get up and go, this would have been rude: no one leaves a room without telling the person he or she is with where he or she is going, and because we took our games seriously, it was up to me to communicate to my best friend that I needed to go use the restroom.   Initially, I approached it like a game of charades. I figured it would be easy to act out the word â€Å"rest,† and once I’d gotten that far, I could simply point to our surroundings to get the word â€Å"room† out.   Keep in mind that while I was trying to act out the words, I had to GO.   I suppose that I was squirming a bit, and perhaps my clues were not as well planned as I originally believed—after about three minutes, when I was still working at â€Å"communicating,† I became desperate.   I did the little kid thing: I crossed my legs together and pointed in the direction of the bathroom.   Something in that last attempt worked, and my best friend understood me.   I rushed off to relieve myself to the sound of laughter. The webinar described what businesses are doing to  grab attention for their products and services – both on the web and in the media. During the webinar, Meerman Scott spoke mainly about one particular way to grab attention: by earning it. And the way to do this is through a good social media campaign. I’m going to summarize just a few points that Meerman Scott drove home about creating a successful social media program that really will grab the attention of the folks you’re after. 1. â€Å"On the web, you are what you publish.† That was one of the first things that really caught my attention. Online publishing includes just about any online content, including: †¢ press releases †¢ ebooks †¢ blogs †¢ podcasts †¢ Twitter and Facebook updates †¢ whitepapers and viral articles †¢ videos for YouTube †¢ and your website itself. Make sure that, when you publish online, you’ve got useful information that really targets your buyers – what they need, what they’re looking for – and says everything in plain language that we can all understand. If you don’t already circulate press releases, you should start. Persuasion, Manipulation, and Ethics

There is a thin line that goes between persuasion, manipulation, and being downright unethical. There is a huge difference between what is persuasive and what is manipulative or unethical. However, there is a certain degree wherein these ideas come into a junction. Perhaps, the shared meaning between these words is influenced and is dependent on the objective and the intention of the speaker. To be clear on the similarities and or differences of these words, the definition of each must be placed into position. Persuasion is an act of influencing or pleading others to understand and recognize certain ideologies, beliefs, viewpoints, etc. Manipulation, on the other hand, is a form of social control wherein others are dealt with forcefully, capably, or cleverly, to bring about an end that is beneficial to the manipulator. (Merriam-Webster, 2008) Judging by the definition of the word ‘manipulation’ makes it unethical. If persuasion were a form of influence, then it would be accurate to establish the idea that in persuading an audience, there is a sense of sending out information and enlightening the audience to sway and encourage them to believe in or adhere to an idea. Manipulation on the other hand is a more dynamic  Ã‚  Ã‚   way of bringing about action and change to the audience. (Sager, 2008) If it is a cleverly way to win over an audience and controlling them to accomplish an objective, it would also be precise to establish the idea that in manipulation, there might be a tendency to go beyond what is ethical, such as covering-up the truth, to make people believe in or adhere to an idea. (Maxfield, 2007) Somehow, persuasion and manipulation are one in the same in the sense that both ideas are common in their objectives and purpose, and that is to cause change behaviorally or ideologically speaking to their audience. The difference between the two lies in their means of carrying out this objective. Persuasion is only a part of the bigger picture and that is manipulation. The title is so effective because of the movie being such a beauty in itself as a work of art. Many characters and points within the movie appear to display something other than what they really are on the inside, much like the title American Beauty, which is quite deceiving. As the movie progresses, I feel that Lester, whom is the main character of the movie, goes through the movie as a suppressed person, emotionally and decisively, to one who expresses his natural freedom to its limits. With his newfound freedom put in action I feel that Lester loses sight of his moral freedom and allows his natural freedom to fully control. I believe this is due to the amount of stress, tension and events occurring through this mid-life crisis that he is experiencing which finally build up to create his turning point. Right at the beginning of the movie, there are certain scenes which relate and lead to the main characters road to rebellion from his normal everyday life. One such scene is in the opening where he stands in the shower, masturbating, which is revealed as, the high point of his day. This shows his sexual frustration which is only a small part of a large fire burning within him. One other impacting factor is displayed in a scene later on that same day at work. He is being threatened with dismissal from the company that he has slaved for, for over 14 years. More fuel to be added to the fire from his professional standpoint. Finally, tied in with his pent up sexual tension, in comes a friend of his daughters in whom he begins to obsess about and many times, fantasize about. This all leads Lester to his release, his breaking point, in which he will reclaim his freedom that he quotes to losing early in the movie, I have lost something. Three Words Improvisations

Three Words Improvisations Student actors love improvs. This one generates a lot of original thinking in a short amount of time. If you focus the thinking of student actors on three words or phrases chosen at random to guide their creation of an improvised scene, you will free them to think far more creatively than if you told them to create a scene about anything at all. Although it sounds counter-intuitive, setting limits actually frees up creativity. This exercise gives student practice in quick collaboration, decision-making, and improvising based on a small amount of pre-planning. Detailed Instructions for facilitating this Improvisation 1. Prepare a number of words on individual slips of paper. You may prepare your own, or visit this page for lists  of words that you can download,  photocopy, cut, and use with your students. 2. Place the slips of paper containing the words into a hat, which, of course may actually be a box or a bowl or any other kind of bin. 3. Tell student actors that they will work in groups of two or three people. Each group will pick three words at random and meet together to quickly decide on the characters and context of a scene that will somehow employ their three chosen words. The individual words may be spoken within the dialogue of their improv or may merely be suggested by the setting or the action. For example, a group that gets the word villain may create a scene that features a character who is a villain without actually ever including that word in their dialogue. A group that gets the word laboratory may set their scene in a science lab, but never use the word in their scene. 4. Tell students that their goal is to plan and then present a short scene that has a beginning, middle, and an end. Every member of the group must play a role in the improvised scene. 5. Remind students that some kind of conflict within a scene generally makes it more interesting to watch. Recommend that they think about a problem that the three words suggest and then plan how their characters might work to solve the problem. Whether or not the characters succeed is what keeps audiences watching. 6. Divide students into groups of two or three and let them choose three words at random. 7. Give them approximately five minutes to plan their improvisation. 8. Gather the whole group together and present each improvised scene. 9. You may choose to have each group share their words before their improvisation or you may wait until after the improv and ask the audience to guess the groups words. 10. After each presentation, ask the audience to compliment the strong aspects of the improvisation. What worked? What effective choices did the student actors make? Who demonstrated a strong use of body, voice, or concentration in the performance of the scene? 11. Then ask the student actors to critique their own work. What went well? What would you change if you were to present the improv again? What aspects of your acting tools (body, voice, Imagination) or skills (concentration, cooperation, commitment, energy) do you feel that you need to work on and improve? 12. Ask the whole groupactors and audienceto share ideas for ways to improve the improvised scene. 13. If you have the time, its great to send the same groups of student actors back to rehearse the same improvised scene and incorporate the recommendations that they agree with. The Limitations Of 4G Although the concept of 4G communications shows much promise, there are still limitations that must be addressed. One major limitation is operating area. Although networks are becoming more ubiquitous, there are still many areas not served. Rural areas and many buildings in metropolitan areas are not being served well by existing wireless networks. This limitation of todays networks will carry over into future generations of wireless systems. The hype that is being created by 3G networks is giving the general public unrealistic expectations of always on, always available, anywhere, anytime communications. The public must realize that although high-speed data communications will be delivered, it will not be equivalent to the wired Internet at least not at first. If measures are not taken now to correct perception issues, 4G services are deployed, there may be a great deal of disappointment associated with the deployment of the technology, and perceptions could become negative. If thi s were to happen, neither 3G nor 4G may realize its full potential. Another limitation is cost. The equipment required to implement a next generation network is still very expensive. Carriers and providers have to plan carefully to make sure that expenses are kept realistic. Some issue expected with the implementation of 4G with multiple heterogeneous networks are issues such as; †¢ access, †¢ handoff, †¢ location coordination, †¢ resource coordination to add new users, †¢ support for multicasting, †¢ support for quality of service, †¢ wireless security and authentication, †¢ network failure and backup, and †¢ pricing and billing. Network architectures will play a key role in implementing the features required to address these issues. POSSIBLE ARCHITECTURES One of the most challenging problems facing deployment of 4G technology is how to access several different mobile and wireless networks. Figure 1 shows three possible architectures: using a multimode device, an overlay network, or a common access protocol. Multimode devices One configuration uses a single physical terminal with multiple interfaces to access services on different wireless networks. Early examples of this architecture include the existing Advanced Mobile Phone System/Code Division Multiple Access dual-function cell phone, Iridiums dual function satellite-cell phone, and the emerging Global System for Mobile telecommunications/Digital Enhanced Cordless Terminal dual-mode cordless phone. The multimode device architecture may improve call completion and expand effective coverage area. It should also provide reliable wireless coverage in case of network, link, or switch failure. The user, device, or network can initiate handoff between networks. The device itself incorporates most of the additional complexity without requiring wireless network modification or employing interworking devices. Each network can deploy a database that keeps track of user location, device capabilities, network conditions, and user preferences. The handling of quali ty-of-service (QoS) issues remains an open research question. Overlay network In this architecture, a user accesses an overlay network consisting of several universal access points. These UAPs in turn select a wireless network based on availability, QoS specifications, and userdefined choices. A UAP performs protocol and frequency translation, content adaptation, and QoS negotiation-renegotiation on behalf of users. The overlay Issues in network, rather than the user or device, performs handoffs as the user moves from one UAP to another. A UAP stores user, network, and device information, capabilities, and preferences. Because UAPs can keep track of the various resources a caller uses, this architecture supports single billing and subscription. Common access protocol This protocol becomes viable if wireless networks can support one or two standard access protocols. One possible solution, which will require interworking between different networks, uses wireless asynchronous transfer mode. To implement wireless ATM, every wireless network must allow transmission of ATM cells with additional headers or wireless ATM cells requiring changes in the wireless networks. One or more types of satellite-based networks might use one protocol while one or more terrestrial wireless networks use another protocol. QUALITY OF SERVICE Supporting QoS in 4G networks will be a major challenge due to varying bit rates, channel characteristics, bandwidth allocation, fault-tolerance levels, and handoff support among heterogeneous wireless networks. QoS support can occur at the packet, transaction, circuit, user, and network levels. †¢ Packet-level QoS applies to jitter, throughput, and error rate. Network resources such as buffer space and access protocol are likely influences. †¢ Transaction-level QoS describes both the time it takes to complete a transaction and the packet loss rate. Certain transactions may be timesensitive, while others cannot tolerate any packet loss. †¢ Circuit-level QoS includes call blocking for new as well as existing calls. It depends primarily on a networks ability to establish and maintain the end-to-end circuit. Call routing and location management are two important circuit-level attributes. †¢ User-level QoS depends on user mobility and application type. The new location may not support the minimum QoS needed, even with adaptive applications. In a complete wireless solution, the end-to-end communication between two users will likely involve multiple wireless networks. Because QoS will vary across different networks, the QoS for such users will likely be the minimum level these networks support. End-to-End QoS Developers need to do much more work to address end-to-end QoS. They may need to modify many existing QoS schemes, including admission control,dynamic resource reservation, and QoS renegotiation to support 4G users diverse QoS requirements. The overhead of implementing these QoS schemes at different levels requires careful evaluation. A wireless network could make its current QoS information available to all other wireless networks in either a distributed or centralized fashion so they can effectively use the available network resources. Additionally, deploying a global QoS scheme may support the diverse requirements of users with different mobility patterns. The effect of implementing a single QoS scheme across the networks instead of relying on each networks QoS scheme requires study. Handoff delay Handoff delay poses another important QoS-related issue in 4G wireless networks. Although likely to be smaller in intranetwork handoffs, the delay can be problematic in internetwork handoffs because of authentication procedures that require message exchange, multiple-database accesses, and negotiation-renegotiation due to a significant difference between needed and available QoS. During the handoff process, the user may experience a significant drop in QoS that will affect the performance of both upper-layer protocols and applications. Deploying a priority-based algorithm and using location-aware adaptive applications can reduce both handoff delay and QoS variability. When there is a potential for considerable variation between senders and receivers device capabilities, deploying a receiver-specific filter in part of the network close to the source can effectively reduce the amount of traffic and processing, perhaps satisfying other users QoS needs. Although 4G wireless technology of fers higher bit rates and the ability to roam across multiple heterogeneous wireless networks, several issues require further research and development. It is not clear if existing 1G and 2G providers would upgrade to 3G or wait for it to evolve into 4G, completely bypassing 3G. The answer probably lies in the perceived demand for 3G and the ongoing improvement in 2G networks to meet user demands until 4G arrives.

Race and racial issues are all around us. Nobody can sneak behind a curtain, or tuck themselves away in a dark room to avoid this; there isn’t a way to escape racism. Our day to day lives are filled with stereotypes and overgeneralizations that make us think and judge the wrong way. We weren’t born into a race or into a category, but rather into a large melting pot. As Tim Wise said, majority of cops when asked â€Å"What would you assume about a Black or Latino male who lives in a shady neighborhood and has a nice, new car? † would respond â€Å"those men are more than likely drug dealers† just because of their race, when in fact, when compared to Black and Latino males, White males are four times more likely to be in possession of drugs at the time of an arrest. Our founders did not want this to be the case. Abraham Lincoln fought to end slavery and abolish the inequality between Human Beings, not guide us in to thinking the color of our skin shapes us and the opinions we create for others based on their â€Å"race†. Can you believe that ninety-four percent of White Americans believe that racial problems are a small issue like not being able to find the match to your shoe, whereas the other six percent are fully aware that this is a huge controversial issue? Those people who believe racism has dwindled down that much need to have an eye opener. Majority of â€Å"White Americans† are the ones who stereotype and categorize those of a different skin color. It is us â€Å"White Americans† who benefit from being the main race, and having the â€Å"White privilege†. More people need to go to a Black neighborhood and talk to those who see racism every day because in the area that about half of us live, racism is small compared to a large city. White privilege might have begun around the same time slavery had. White people, being the majority, saw the â€Å"new race† as an opportunity to become supreme ruler over something, to have large groups of people work for them. The African American community thought differently, and tried running away. Infuriated, the Whites began on a whole new level believing anyone who ran away from the plantation was sick. Slavery in general, helped create white privilege and stereotype all African Americans into the working type, and now the druggies. All these past experiences have made it harder for African Americans to strive in our society. In previous decades, they deliberately separated White and Black neighborhoods, and when a Black moved into a White neighborhood, the houses value and the neighborhoods value decreased just because the people who moved there were of a different color. It is absolutely ridiculous that racism is still around about just as much as it was seven years ago. Anybody with logical thinking would believe that it would have dwindled down to something less severe. Unfortunately, several towns are still divided and segregated because of race and skin color. I hope I get to see every race and skin color come together and work together fully, across the nation before I’m fifty, that’s thirty three years from now.
